Kid on the left image

a note from the founder

The inspiration for Kid on the Left was born in the fall of 2021 during my son’s first season of t-ball. Although t-ball is highly non-competitive and children are more interested in building sandcastles than driving the ball backside in the gap, this was a special milestone for me. Not because I won coach of the year, led an undefeated squad of toddlers, or was compensated grossly for my time, but because the joy I received from watching Kai run around (and trip, and fall, and cry) was indescribable.

After a game, this picture was shared with my wife and me. Like the proud dad I am, it was customary that I set it as the background on my phone. However, I kept returning to the picture to reflect when the thought painfully resurfaced, I never had a chance to be the…kid on the left! And what’s even more heartbreaking is the abundance of people that have been affected similarly.

But instead of excuses, brokenness, and insecurities, can’t we change how we view our circumstances? Put yourself in my shoes in the picture for a moment. Changing my perspective allowed me to realize that I’m actually on the left in the picture. So, I concluded whichever side you’re on, receiving or giving, serving or served, adult or child, we can all be the Kid on the Left.
